This activity has five variations. Your notes can be reused for future playtime.
What you need:
- Post-its
- Marker or crayon
How to play:
- You will need to draw or write out on each post-it note, depending on the I Spy game you’re creating.
- Hide the post-it notes around the room, house, or yard.
- Just like a Scavenger Hunt, your child must find all of the post-it notes.
- This is a great game for older siblings to play with younger siblings. Your older child can create and hide the post-its!.
Play tips:
- For a 20-month-old, they can just find the notes. Place them at eye level. Then say the letter name when they find it. “You found the letter A! Hooray for A!”
- For your two-year-old, place post-it notes in easy-to-see places; keep it eye level or lower.
- You can make this game more challenging for older kids by placing notes in locations that will be trickier to find.
Fives Ways to Play
- ALPHABET: Write a big letter (e.g., A, B, C, etc.) on each note. For little ones, stick to using only uppercase letters.
- FEELINGS: Draw an emoji (e.g., happy face, sad face) on each note. Once your child has found them all, you can act out the expressions and call out the emotion that goes with each one!
- SIGHT WORDS (ages 5+): Write out sight words that your child is practicing. This is a great way to bring active play into learning to read.
- NUMBERS: Write out numbers 1-10 only. For younger kids, celebrate finding and naming all the numbers together.
